Trpanj

Trpanj is on the northern coast of the peninsula, facing the Neretva and the mainland. The ferry to Ploče makes it the fastest link between Pelješac and the motorway, something many buyers underestimate until their first drive towards Zagreb.

The north side has a gentler climate and softer sunsets, and is less exposed to the bura than the west. The village is mostly local, with a small harbour, its medicinal mud, and a quieter summer than Orebić or Viganj. Prices here are noticeably lower for the same floor area.

For year round living Trpanj has what is needed: a primary school, a clinic, a post office, shops and several restaurants that stay open out of season. Summer guests are mainly Croatian and Czech, the atmosphere is family oriented, and the beaches never quite fill up even in August.

You get more for the same money here than anywhere else on the peninsula. Plots are larger, houses come with gardens, and the older building stock is usually sound, needing cosmetic rather than structural work. The trade off is distance from Korčula and from the western beaches, around forty five minutes across the peninsula.
